The price you assign to a liquor will depend on the cost of the bottle and the price the market
will allow.  First, you should research the prices of comparable businesses in your surrounding
area, using those numbers as a guide.  Then, once you assign the price for each grade of alcohol,
you can use this as a general guide for determining the prices of each liquor individually:
Cost Per Bottle
Grade of Alcohol
under $13*
Well
$13 - $25
Call
$25 - $35
Premium
over $35
Super Premium
over $50

SAMPLE Lesson 3M:  Profits

For a variety of reasons that may arise, you should make a spread sheet that will tell you what
your profits are for each type of alcohol you stock.  You will need to use your product invoices
to complete your own chart, but you might want to take a look and use this sample, below.

If you calculate the profit for each liquor you sell, you’ll be able to see where your greater profits
come from.  Notice that the profit on a bottle of beer is less than the profit on hard liquor.  Though
a customer may purchase more bottles of beer, there is no guarantee.  They could also sip on the
same bottle all night.  That’s why offering too many choices of beer is not always a good idea for
generating profits.

Bottle Income - Bottle Cost = Bottle Profit
Drink Price - Drink Cost = Drink Profit

Notes:
~ These numbers are based on pouring a 1½ ounce shot
~ *750 ml (25.4 ounces) bottles have 16 shots per bottle; 1 liter bottles have 22 shots
~ All bottles come in 1 liter size (33.8 ounces), 80 proof, unless otherwise noted
Cost= your cost
Price= customer’s cost
Profit= after cost
